June

I was thinking to myself just yesterday that I should start to accumulate the details for my end-of-month updates. Little did I realise that the end of the month was actually today! We've officially passed the half-way mark for 2013 and I feel like it's flown on by without me. But hey..

This month I:
- Turned 25. Scary biscuits!
- Sat my first ever Open University exam. Scarier biscuits!
- Went to a baby shower for my brother and his girlfriend's baby. (Any day now..)
- Survived my last assembly of the school year.
- Celebrated my wee brother's 21st birthday.
- Went to school sports day (because my life is awesome).
- Got a horrendous sickness bug/case of food-poisoning and basically lost an entire week. Lovely.

I read:
'God Collar' by Marcus Brigstocke
Yup.. I read one book this month. One solitary book. And it wasn't even a trek through some literary masterpiece. To be honest, it wasn't even any good.

This book is basically Brigstocke's rant about how he wants to believe in God but finds it all too difficult. Given my firm faith in Jesus Christ, it's a little ironic that I found myself agreeing with many of his points (religion is a pain in the ass) and yet found this book entirely disagreeable to read. A lot of hard work for little in the way of reward.

I watched:
'The Great Gatsby' in the cinema at long last - it was exactly what you'd expect from Baz Luhrman.. and that's a good thing in my book.

On Netflix there was: 'Katy Perry: Part of Me' (I don't even like Katy Perry, particularly, but it was a vaguely enjoyable watch); 'The Beach' (which I can't believe I haven't seen before -- brilliant!); and 'Broken Flowers' (pleasant enough viewing but nothing staggering).

On DVD there was my second viewing of 'Pitch Perfect'.

And on TV I was embarrassingly hooked on 'The Voice, unashamedly hooked on this weekend's Glastonbury footage, and watching but still ethically undecided about 'Don't Call Me Crazy'. (I like the anti-stigma ideals and the insight it gives to those unfamiliar with such wards, but whose consent allowed these young people to be filmed at such a vulnerable time in their lives and aren't they going to regret it in 5 or 10 years time?!)

And that was that, really.

It feels like June has been a super-busy but rather unproductive month and I'm looking forward to seeing some of it outworked in the next few weeks.

How was June for you?!

  1. Happy belated birthday! 25 isn't that scary, I think 30 will be worse! Love The Voice, Love Pitch Perfect and have yet to see the Great Gatsby!

    1. I must confess it hasn't been toooo painful yet. 30 sounds entirely terrifying though!

  2. Happy belated birthday and I hope you're feeling better. From my ancient vantage point of 52 years old, I say forget about numbers! Don't let them have a hold on you! Just live!
