High Hopes: A Playlist

I usually have a wee playlist of newly discovered tracks to share every month, but I haven't been listening to much in the way of new music recently (with the exception of Nick Mulvey, Passenger and George Ezra's albums). What I have been listening to are lots of older tracks that give me a bit of a kick up the posterior with their positive mental attitude feel.

We can all do with a bit of a positivity boost sometimes, so I thought I'd share some of my current favorite feel good songs:

1. 'The Brightest Lights' by King Charles (feat. Mumford & Sons)
"The brightest lights cast the darkest shadows and that's where I'll be found, for what's hiding by the morning will be chased by daylight hounds."

2. 'Brave' by Sara Bareilles
"Maybe there’s a way out of the cage where you live; maybe one of these days you can let the light in. Show me how big your brave is."

3. 'Be Ok' by Ingrid Michaelson
"I just want to know today, know today, know today.. Know that maybe I will be okay."

4. 'Keep Your Head Up' by Ben Howard
"Keep your head up, keep your heart strong; keep your mind set, keep your hair long."

5. 'The Cave' by Mumford & Sons
"And I'll find strength in pain and I will change my ways - I'll know my name as it's called again."

6. 'If Ever I Stray' by Frank Turner
"'Cause love is free and life is cheap and as long as I've got me a place to sleep, some clothes on my back and some food to eat, then I can't ask for anything more."

7. 'Scare Away the Dark' by Passenger
"Well, sing, sing at the top of your voice; love without fear in your heart. Feel, feel like you still have a choice - if we all light up we can scare away the dark."

8. 'High Hopes' by Paolo Nutini
"Let us change what we can and accept what we can't; and impart some of the wisdom from the tried and tested man."

9. 'Life' by Josh Rouse
"And if you're lost, don't be sad, there are good times to be had - just sing a song and let love shine, 'cause that's just life.."

10. 'I Believe' by Christina Perri
"I believe that tomorrow is stronger than yesterday and I believe that your head is the only thing in your way. I wish that you could see your scars turn into beauty; I believe that today it's okay to be not okay. [...] This is not the end of me; this is the beginning."

11. 'The Fear' by Ben Howard
"I've been worrying.. that we all live our lives in the confines of fear. I will become what I deserve."

12.  'Against the Grain' by City and Colour
"When all the hard times outweigh the good and all your words are misunderstood; when the day seems lost from the start ..you must follow your heart."

13. 'People Should Smile More' by Newton Faulkner
"I can't change the world, 'cause trying to make a difference makes it worse. It's just an observation I can't ignore: that people should smile more."

What songs do you listen to when you need a little pick-me-up?

  1. Thanks for that, Laura - clever to put the links right here! I will enjoy listening to these. Thanks for your lovely comment on my recent blog post, and for your good wishes. Your comments over the past few years (and an email that you sent) have been at times like beacons for me in choosing hope over despair! I really hope you are doing fine.
