Edinburgh

This weekend i spent a rather lovely few days in Edinburgh, catching up with Gemma and seeing a little more of the city than i have in the past.

On Thursday night, we went to see Noah and the Whale perform at the Liquid Rooms. Their support act were a little bit naff, but NatW lived up to all my expectations and reminded me why i call them my favourite band!

The rest of the weekend was a mismatch of museums, art galleries, comedy nights, beaches, sunshine, rain, graveyards, castles, charity shops, good food and endless cups of tea.

These are a few of the more 'hidden' (read: not entirely tourist-ridden) treasures i found along the way:

The Beach House, Portobello esplanade.

This cafe was the perfect white-washed setting for some refreshments along the beach. They give the option of sitting outside overlooking the sea - even providing blankets to shield you from the Scottish wind - but with decor as cute as their's, i'm not entirely sure why you would. They serve a selection of teas, coffees, ice-creams, light lunches and the most appetising range of cakes known to man! i sampled their Victoria sponge and it tasted even better than it looked. Nom!

The Red Door Gallery, Victoria Street

i went in search of this shop knowing that they're the only place in Scotland to stock jewellery by A Skulk of Foxes. Unfortunately they didn't have the rings i hoped they might, but the shop itself was like walking into one of my favourite magazines. They're essentially an art boutique and i had to stop myself from exclaiming out-loud again and again as i wandered round and found myself stumbling across the works of artists like Belle & Boo, Alice Melvin, Stephanie Webb, Donna Wilson and Tatty Devine, whose work i'm familiar with online.

So many pretty things to covet!

Old Town Context, Cockburn Street

Another quirky gift shop, Old Town Context was crammed full of clever metal signs, retro souvenirs, slogan cards, unique art pieces and a never-ending sea of nostalgia. My particular favourites were the awesome Rob Ryan mugs.

Bibi's Bakery, Hanover Street

And last but not least, i'm back to thinking about my belly with Bibi's Bakery who specialise in brownies and a rather large range of cupcakes. It was worth the visit just to see their beautiful royal wedding themed window display ..but if you were to venture inside i'd highly recommend the red velvet or honey waffle cupcakes. Yummy!

Feeling grateful for a rather beautiful weekend ♥
