Brick Lane

Last weekend I was able to escape the cold North East of Scotland for a fractionally-warmer few days with my sister in London Town. It was a lovely, relaxing few days and I really appreciated the change of scene - there's nothing quite like the safety of family combined with the complete anonymity of a huge, hectic city to give you a bit of respite from your anxious thoughts.

I'm a big fan of the British capital (though admittedly in small doses) and one of the things I love most about the city is its huge variety of cultures existing side-by-side and the fact that there's always something new to do or somewhere undiscovered to explore.

One area that's always caught my attention, but which I've never actually spent any time in before, is that of Shoreditch - and Brick Lane in particular. We headed there late on Sunday morning (after an amazing brunch at The Breakfast Club - yum!), while the market was in full swing and bustling, and enjoyed soaking up the scenery and atmosphere.

These are just a few of my favourite sights from that part of the day...

It was such a vibrant and eclectic space to explore and I'd definitely like to return next time I'm in London.. preferably when the sun is shining and I'm hungry enough to sample some of the delicious-smelling street food!

Have you spent much time in London? Which parts of the city are your favourite to wander and explore?

(For the record, I'm totally counting this as February's get-out-and-use-a-real-camera effort for my to-do list.)

  1. I used to live in south west London, which I loved as it had Richmond Park, riverside pubs, and Kew Gardens, but I had a soft spot for going east side to Spitalfields Market and to Brick Lane for a curry!

    1. Ah, Richmond Park looks like such a beautiful area to explore but is not somewhere I've ever reached on my travels.. yet!

  2. That looks as exotic to me as I imagine some city in India to be like! I'm so happy you had a fun getaway with your sister. I don't know London all that well, but would love to visit the Physic Garden in Chelsea sometime. And Kew...

    1. I had never heard of the Physic Garden before now, but it looks beautiful and seems I dined not ten minutes away! We stayed over in the Kensington/Chelsea direction and it's such a contrast to the Brick Lane area, but so pretty!

  3. Some great photos, it looks like a colourful area :) I've only been to the really touristy areas of London - Buckingham Palace, Oxford Street, London Eye, etc. Next time I'm in the 'big smoke' I'll be sure to check out Brick Lane though, it looks really interesting!

    1. Oh, it's certainly colourful! I think it might be my favourite part of London so far, except perhaps for Camden.
