March: A Month In Rearview

I'm sure I say this every time but, um, where on earth has the last month gone?! Time has flown by and I don't feel like I've done very much at all.

I had a week of annual leave to use up at the start of the month so I spent a few days at my parents', enjoying the company of family and cats and dogs, before catching up with friends in Mintlaw and Banff and enjoying girly days eating brunch with one of my flatmates.

I signed up for a swimming membership at the Aquatics Centre this month (what an amazing facility!) and have been getting in some training for Loch Lomond in the 50m pool. I started running again too and have gained a bit of an obsession with jogging while it's dark so no one else can witness my embarrassment! Not quite sure how that's going to play out in the lighter nights of the summer, so I have to keep it up and hope to be marginally better by then!

I've been working away as well, managing to maintain my contract hours and even add an occasional hour of overtime or two. I'm still finding it pretty hard-going and often go home and sob with frustration (with myself) at the end of shift, but I think I'm slowly getting better at speaking up and asking to swap duties for short periods when all the interaction gets too much.

Other than that, the rest of the month seems to have been split between church activities and, er, eating. Lots. I finally made it along to a church Welcome Dinner (better late than never!); we had a brilliant ladies' evening at The Sanctuary a couple of Saturdays ago; and I've been going along to a small Alpha group which has really helped me get to know more of the 'family'.

My sister and I took our parents' out for dinner at Shri Bheema's Indian restaurant as a Mothers' Day celebration (read her blog about it here); I ate far too many cakes and endless scones in various coffee shops and tea rooms; I enjoyed an epic brunch at Rye & Soda; mum and I indulged in a three course lunch at Howies; ...and then there was the Dominos pizza. Let's just say it's a good job I've been doing all that exercise!

I'm feeling a bit worn out as the month draws to a close (as the bags under my eyes are happy to confirm!), but I can't complain as March has been pretty good to me. I hope the same can be said for everyone else too!

  1. It's so good to read about all you've been doing. Hats off to you for all the training, I've been sending good thoughts your way for that. Who is the patient black cat?

    1. Thank you - it's appreciated. As is the generous donation.. Just in case you didn't see my thanks for that elsewhere!
Ha, the cat called Brian (yes, really) and he belongs to my friend up in Banff. He's probably one of the most affectionate felines I've ever met and he responds to my friend more like a dog than a cat. It's lovely to see.

    2. You're very welcome. You're the one doing all the hard work! Our Tilly is also quite dog-like in her devotion to us. She campaigns for her dinner to be served on time (5 pm) but then after a few nibbles, she waits until we are having our tea, 45 minutes later, to finish eating. Animals can be such a joy.
