Ah, February! Cold and frosty and occasionally snowy, but finally - finally - some light in the evenings and some long-awaited sun. I'm so relieved to see something other than darkness and grey - it makes everything seem that little bit more bearable.

This month I:
- Went to nursery for the first time in 20 years.
- Spent a pleasant Sunday driving around the countryside.
- Saw Bastille and Two Door Cinema Club in concert.
- Survived another terrifying public speaking engagement.
- Got a little too excited about the Brit Awards.
- Fell completely in love with the beauty of a classic car that arrived in our driveway. (More on that to follow.)
- Booked a hotel for my first Hogmanay in Edinburgh! (Organised, much?)
- And saw Frightened Rabbit (with 3 Blind Wolves and Wintersleep) play at the Music Hall in Aberdeen.

I read:

'Facing Up' by Bear Grylls
This book was a bit of a panic buy at a church sale, picked up for the sake of buying something.  On reading, it got off to a bit of a slow start, but culminated in me staying up most of the night to read the latter half. The book is an autobiographical account of Grylls' climb to the summit of Everest at the age of just 23, but it surprised me to find that it's also something more. It's an honest testimony of one young man's unfailing faith in Christ in the most remarkable of circumstances (for more on Bear's faith, read here) and I'm glad I 'accidentally' picked it up!

'Life of Pi' by Yann Martel
I have mixed feelings about this book. I really enjoyed the beginning and all its humorous insights on religion; I really enjoyed the ending, which still has me a little confused (in a good way); and I really enjoyed reflecting on all the questions that it raised. But somewhere in the middle I just wished that things would speed up a bit. We know from the very beginning that he's going to make it and I just felt like it was dragged out with a few more descriptions of mutilating marine life than this vegetarian could really take. Strangely, I'd still recommend reading it ..perhaps just at a faster, more determined speed.

It took me so long to read 'Life of Pi' that I have no other books to show for this month..

And I watched:
'Casino Royale',so I can no longer claim to be a Bond virgin; 'Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Pt 2',because I'd never seen it before - appalling of me, right?; The Runaways, which is the first Kristen Stewart movie which didn't make me want to punch her in the face; Charlie Brooker's second series of 'Black Mirror' on channel 4; and the last of 'My Mad Fat Diary' on E4, which I was undecided about after the first episode, but thoroughly hooked on by the end!

With the exception of a cold which wiped me out and never seemed to end, or the last few days in which I've managed to scratch the car and smash the bathroom sink,  February was another pretty decent month!

How was it for you?
